About The Working Group on Seed Systems (WGoSS) for Rainfed Areas at Revitalising Rainfed Agriculture Network - RRA Network

To design and promote a seed system appropriate in rainfed areas that include traditional varieties to support a diversified, productive, climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture; such a seed system is intended to be managed by farmers’ organizations in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Research Institutions.

What purpose does Portal serve?

The portal can be used by traditional seed conservers/ savers, seed banks, organisations and programs working on traditional seed varieties to characterise their collections, maintain database and have the option of making the information public or to keep themselves.

A set of base characteristics of the collections and their evaluation information can be documented. These characters are derived from among various seed characters used in DUS, PPV&FRA, and others.

Tools for Visual Comparison/ Analysis

The Portal offers visual tools for comparison of characteristics of different collections (given unique Id in the database) within the collections of a farmer/ organisation or among all the.

Information Exchange

The Portal provides for traditional seed producers to make public the seed available with them of particular collections along with evaluation data for wider information for those seeking those and enables exchange and wider spread.

Resources

The Portal provide information, resource material etc., on seed production, biodiversity, inventory of seed banks and such other useful information.

RRA Network
